The laboratories of the Institute of Materials and Technologies in Spodnja Idrija again hosted the second-year high school students from the Jurij Vega High School in Idrija (GJV Idrija). With laboratory exercises, we helped them to consolidate, upgrade and practically test the knowledge gained in physics and chemistry classes.
Under the supervision of Urška Žonta the students from GJV Idrija got acquainted with the thermal gravimetry unit in our chemical and metallurgical laboratory. At the laboratory for mechanical-physical analyses, Kristjan Hladnik assisted by his colleague Grega Lampe explained and practically demonstrated how heat treatment impacts the mechanical properties of materials. In the end, Jure Novak introduced the operation of infrared cameras and made thermal photographs of the students.
The students really paid attention to the explanations and visited the labs with interest; and the exercises introduced some of the state-of-the-art devices and machines to them. These devices are indispensable in our corporation in the development of technology and innovative products.
