Since October Hidria has been a partner and coordinator of the EDISON WINCI project in the framework of the tender Demo Piloti II 2018. This is a project developing the infrastructure, competencies and elements of business models for logistical systems of electrical vehicles for contactless charging. In this project Hidria will develop new technologies of bonding laminations used to produce modern electric drive motors.
The partners of the EDISON WINCI consortium, which is coordinated by our corporation, are Abelium, GoOpti, Iskra, Pošta Slovenije, Sunesis, and the NELA Development Center. We wish to be the first in Slovenia to develop and validate in real life the missing key building blocks of a comprehensive supportive environment that will allow easy contactless charging of electric vehicles and thus support the development of innovative business models of sharing economy between the users and providers of energy, infrastructure, components, services, vehicles, etc. In this project Hidria acts as the leader of the development of electric motor components that are compatible with electric drives and suitable for electric vehicle charge by induction or conventionally.
The main goal of our corporation is to develop new technologies suitable for serial production of cores for electric motors. We will develop a new tool for producing cores on a stamping line by means of a press, integrating the process of bonding or “gluing” laminations into a core without short circuit points. This project is a great challenge for obtaining new breakthrough technical know-how required to produce modern electric drive motors that will be compatible with new charging technologies.
The EDISON WINCI project addresses a comprehensive approach to reaching environmental targets by developing new green technologies in mobility, where Hidria with its innovative products and solutions plays one of the key roles in the automotive industry. Various forms of transportation contribute around 30 per cent of the total CO2 emissions. In large urban areas traffic is the source of nearly all harmful emissions of dust particles and NOx.
The development of innovative solutions, for example cleaner vehicles, requires not only changes in consumer behaviour, but also changes in the behaviour of providers of new cleaner solutions or business models. Such breakthrough requires comprehensive approaches and developing solutions that will allow users to simply change over to new technologies with a higher amount of comfort and a better user experience. They must also encourage the spreading and re-use of green mobility.
This project addresses wireless charging technology as one of the key pathways for the breakthrough in sustainable green mobility. It is based on creating a magnetic field and, consequently, an electric current between the transmitter coils in the carriageway or road and the receiving coils in the vehicle. In this way EDISON WINCI is developing solutions that will use contactless charging to help reduce the amount of batteries needed thus reducing the weight and cost of vehicles, achieve significantly longer electric ranges, easy charging, reducing the negative environmental impact of battery production and decommissioning, and easily charging for the cost of electricity. This will make electric vehicles more attractive and their use will allow for more comfort compared to classical vehicles.
This project will run until May 2022. Its total value is EUR 8,114,325.80 and is co-funded in the amount of EUR 3,131,129.07 by the Republic of Slovenia and the European Regional Development Fun. Our corporation will receive over one million euros of grants here.
