Yesterday the beautiful sunny Sunday attracted many runners from all over the world to the streets of Ljubljana. The 24th Ljubljana Marathon was marked by numerous records. Like every year, our colleagues participated in it. Through their performance and large attendance, they have once again proved their perseverance, endurance and strength - all virtues needed to achieve top results.
Among the 19,612 participants of the 24th Ljubljana Marathon who occupied the streets of our capital, there were as many as 168 runners from Hidria. They ran the 10, 21 and 42-kilometre trials. They demonstrated their sacrifice, endurance and effort, and in the end their faces glowed with maximum satisfaction.
Yesterday's warm and sunny Sunday was obviously just right for achieving records. After the morning cold with dense fog, the temperature in the atmosphere soon began to rise and reached a record for the Ljubljana Marathon, 20 degrees Celsius in the middle of the day. Unfortunately, these conditions were not ideal for the men's 42-kilometre record, where the Ethiopian Kelkile Gezahegn Woldaregay (2:07:29) won. Yet enough for the women's track record, where the Kenyan Bornes Chepkirui Kitur (2:21:26) celebrated. Apart from the dark-skinned runners, a Slovenian broke a record too. This was Jan Kokalj with the best Slovenian time at 10 kilometres (30:52).
